William Lakin, a 22-year-old photographer based in Brighton, East Sussex, won the £1,000 prize in the under-30s category of the RPS International Print Exhibition.
Commenting on his winning shot, William, a recent graduate of Middlesex University, said: ‘I met three boys on a cold Saturday morning, on a street in Great Yarmouth in March 2013, while photographing for my project Florida Club.’
‘I asked them if I could photograph them as I felt they represented a transformative age group and reflected the changing identity of the town, once a booming British holiday resort, now struggling to adapt and reinvent itself.’
Spanish photographer Jacqueline Roberts, who lives and works in Germany, was named as the Gold Award winner in the main part of the competition. She also scooped a £1,000 prize.
Mandy Barker and Damien Wootten, both from the UK, won Silver and Bronze Awards respectively.
The fifth winner was Tamara Staples from the United States, who won a Bronze Award.
More than 1,700 photographers entered this year’s contest, submitting over 6,600 photos.
The best 100 images will go on show at the Greenwich Heritage Centre in Woolwich, London, from 31 July-28 August.
